Indonesia, a republic in SE Asia, has a population of about 240 million. Spread over an archipelago consisting of more than 17,500 islands stretching a distance of 3,400 miles along the equator, it is the world’s 4th most populous nation and ranks 2nd in biodiversity, behind Brazil.

There are more than 300 distinct languages and ethnic groups in Indonesia. Bahasa Indonesia is the official language and lingua franca.
